New US bill set to make a historic investment in a clean hydrogen economy

A new bipartisan Clean Hydrogen Energy Act is aiming to create a historic investment in researching and developing clean hydrogen technologies to create a hydrogen economy in the US.

With hydrogen recognised as a key aspect for decarbonising US industry, the new hydrogen bill will provide legislative backing to support the development of hydrogen infrastructure to support companies looking to transition to cleaner power.

The bill, presented by US Representative Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Doyle and Conor Lamb, will look to invest in a number of programs to help develop the clean hydrogen economy.

It is expected to create a hydrogen research and development program that is focused on near, medium and long-term goals for driving down costs for all sources of hydrogen production, developing the transportation and storage of hydrogen, and for multiple end uses.

In addition to this, four new hydrogen hubs will be developed in geographically diverse areas with these hubs to focus on end uses of power generation, transportation, home and commercial heating, and industry.

The bill also directs the Secretary of State to create a technologically and economically feasible national strategy and roadmap to facilitate widescale production, processing, delivery, storage, and use of clean hydrogen in the US.
