The move accelerates domestic manufacturing of five key energy technologies, including hydrogen electrolyzers, fuel cells, and platinum group metals

WASHINGTON, DC – Hydrogen Forward, a coalition of companies that span the hydrogen value chain and work to ensure hydrogen is a key contributing solution to the energy transition, released the following statement regarding President Biden’s action to provide the U.S. Department of Energy the authority to use the Defense Production Act (DPA) to accelerate domestic production of five key energy technologies, including hydrogen electrolyzers, fuel cells, and platinum group metals.

“Hydrogen Forward applauds the Biden Administration’s invocation of the DPA to accelerate the development of domestic clean energy supply chains, including electrolyzers, fuel cells and platinum group metals. Advancing the domestic hydrogen value chain and working with key global allies will create jobs, achieve decarbonization goals and enhance U.S. energy independence and security in the decades to come. This latest action continues to demonstrate the Administration’s long-term commitments to stable economic growth while transitioning to clean energy solutions, including hydrogen.”

The Administration stated that global demand for these technologies is set to skyrocket by 400-600% in the next several decades and “unless the U.S. expands new manufacturing, processing, and installation capacity, we will be forced to continue to rely on clean energy imports—exposing the nation to supply chain vulnerabilities, while simultaneously missing out on the enormous job opportunities associated with the energy transition.”
