Linda Dempsey of CF Industries Presents at Resources for the Future
Linda Dempsey, Vice President of Public Affairs at CF Industries, spoke at a Resources for the Future (RFF) event, “A Hydrogen Future? Exploring Pathways to Decarbonization” this week. Dempsey noted that CF Industries has numerous projects and initiatives to achieve its goal of decarbonization by 2050, including a pilot green ammonia production facility in Louisiana. She also cited carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) as a pathway that could help decarbonize one-third of CF Industries’ network in the coming years. Dempsey said that ammonia has the chemical characteristics to make it the most energy efficient substance for transport and storage for hydrogen. Additionally, because the technology to disassociate hydrogen from ammonia is mature, the benefits of hydrogen can be unlocked easily.
Dempsey reiterated the importance of a national hydrogen strategy to get U.S. hydrogen production up to scale and compete on a global level. Although there are programs that are making positive developments, such as DOE’s [email protected], Dempsey said that a federal road map and national policies, such as tax incentives, are critical to the U.S catching up to global progress when it comes to hydrogen.
